Here's a lovely Vinho Verde from Portugal, made with Alvarelhão, Pedral and Vinhão from the 2022 vintage. A quick word on the grape: Alvarelhão is a Portuguese red grape giving pale, fresh, light-bodied wines with delicate red fruit. There's Pedral in the blend too: an indigenous red grape of the Monção e Melgaço area on the Portuguese–Galician border, giving fresh, lightly structured red wines with bright red-fruit. Vinho Verde is meant to be drunk young and fresh — it's light, low in alcohol and often has a tiny, refreshing prickle of fizz. It comes from the lush, rainy northwest, the green corner of Portugal that gives Vinho Verde its name. It's the ultimate chilled-aperitif wine, and a dream with seafood and light summer plates. Best straight from the fridge, nicely chilled.
