Here's a lovely dry red wine from Portugal — Ribafreixo Selecao's blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Alfrocheiro and Alicante Bouschet from the 2021 vintage. About the grape — Aragonez is a southern-Portuguese name for Tempranillo, giving structured, savory reds with red and dark fruit. Alfrocheiro comes along for the ride as well — a Portuguese red grape giving deeply colored, aromatic wines with ripe berry and blackberry fruit. Portugal is a goldmine of native grapes, from the zippy whites of the green northwest to the muscular reds and legendary Ports of the Douro Valley.
