Pierre gaillard Cote rotie red 2021
The Pierre Gaillard Côte-Rôtie red wine is a remarkable representation of the Northern Rhône region's winemaking tradition. The nose of this wine is notably fragrant, abundant with wild red fruits such as redcurrants, strawberry jam, raspberry leaf, and violets, creating an enticing bouquet. The inclusion of 10% Viognier in the blend imparts a playful and aromatic quality to the wine. On the palate, it is described as juicy, plump, and fresh, offering a gentle sweetness accompanied by a subtle touch of black pepper that lingers through the finish. Domaine Pierre Gaillard produces three variants of the Côte-Rôtie wine. The Classique version is a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier, sourced from vines planted in the Cote Blonde and Cote Brune areas, which are known for their south by southeast exposure. The grapes used are almost always fully destemmed, and the malolactic fermentation process is conducted in barrels, adding to the complexity and depth of the wine. The Côte-Rôtie from Pierre Gaillard has garnered attention for its rich black fruit notes, including blackberry, plum, and other black fruits, making it a standout in its category. The 2020 vintage is medium-bodied with 13.5% alcohol content and is characterized by cedary spice, exotic flowers, and a savory blend of red and black fruits. This vintage is recommended to be laid down for 2-3 years to allow the tannins to mellow, enhancing its overall texture and flavor profile.
