Esporao Private brings us this dry red wine from Portugal, a blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo) and Alicante Bouschet from the 2016 vintage. A quick word on the grape: Aragonez is a Portuguese name for Tempranillo, giving structured, savory reds with red and dark fruit. Alicante Bouschet comes along for the ride as well — unusual among red grapes for its red flesh, producing intensely colored, full-bodied wines with concentrated dark fruit. Portugal is a goldmine of native grapes, from the zippy whites of the green northwest to the muscular reds and legendary Ports of the Douro Valley.
